Is leave that is taken by employees to cope with domestic emergencies. Under the Employment Relations Act 1999, employees have an entitlement to take a reasonable amount of time off (which is unpaid) to deal with incidents involving dependants. Leave is limited to births, deaths, injuries, illnesses, the failure of arrangements for looking after dependants, and emergencies affecting a child at school or on a school trip.
