A qualitative test of mucoproteins used as an indicator of stress. An increase in mucoproteins is associated with a stress reaction induced in the adrenal cortex as a result of metabolic fatigue. The test consists of taking a 2-ml sample of urine, and adding to it 1 ml of 1% thionin and 2 ml of 4% solution of ammonium molybdate. A positive reaction is indicated by the urine turning violet. The degree of coloration indicates the degree of positive reaction which may be represented as +, ++, or +++.
