Australian bushranger. Born in Dublin, he was sentenced to transportation for life. He and two companions went bushranging in New South Wales from 1827 to 1830, when he was killed in a fight in the Bringelly scrub near Campbelltown. He, together with Ned Kelly (1855–80), inspired the glorification and cult of bushranging in Australian society.
