donor fatigue

Quick Reference

A reluctance to commit to voluntary donations of resources or altruistic behaviour in the light of repeated demands. Donor fatigue can be seen to be exacerbated by increased competition amongst specialist charities and NGOs (non‐governmental organizations), often dependent on voluntary donations, each of whom wish to present their issues as the most urgent and beneficial. Since every issue is presented as a crisis, it can be hard to distinguish where real need lies, and both overall levels and the distribution of resources become sub‐optimal.
