Quick Reference

A protein of the TGFβ family, originally isolated from chick, that regulates cell differentiation within the neural tube in conjunction with distinct ventralizing signals from the notochord and floor plate. The human homologue is probably growth differentiation factor 2 (BMP9) which is mostly expressed in liver, though during development it is thought to have a role in regulating the cholinergic phenotype of some spinal cord neurons.
