Four muscles at the back of the hand. They originate at the sides of the metacarpals of all digits and insert onto the base of the proximal phalanx of all digits. Their primary actions are abduction of the second and fourth metacarpophalangeal joints, radial and ulnar deviation of the third metacarpophalangeal joint, and flexion of the second, third, and fourth metacarpophalangeal joints.
