double diffusion

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

A method used for detecting an antibody response in which both antigen and antibody are allowed to diffuse through an agar or agarose gel towards one another. Where the antibody/antigen ratio is balanced, a precipitin line will form and can be seen as an arc of opacity in the gel. Multiple samples can be arranged around a single antibody well and identity of antigens is revealed if precipitation lines coincide.
