Quick Reference

In Drosophila melanogaster, an acrocentric, double-length X chromosome arising as a radiation-induced aberration. Such double X chromosomes are superior to the ordinary metacentric, attached X chromosomes (q.v.) for most stockkeeping operations, since they do not break up by crossing over with the Y. See also detached X.
