A system of planking in which the strakes are laid diagonally. Usually double skinned, the outer skin also being normally diagonal in the other direction but sometimes fore and aft. The main purpose of double diagonal planking is to give the hull additional strength. Before the introduction of modern materials, such as GRP, it was a system of construction used for small naval vessels, some yachts, and also in sailing dinghies.
