A genus of ornamental, winter-flowering shrubs that have stem-clasping, sharply pointed leaves. The tubular flowers are white to red in crowded, 1-sided, terminal racemes. The fruit is a small capsule and the seed is slow to germinate. The species of exposed habitats are small; some are cushion plants. There are 48 species, found in Australasia and New Caledonia.
