Quick Reference

Lengths of chain shackled to weighted drags which act as a brake and bring a ship to a halt after it has been launched into the water down the launching ways. They are mostly used when the slipway is in a narrow waterway where there is not sufficient room for the ship to be launched without stopping it, for fear of it running ashore on the opposite bank.
