(fl. 1696–1723), British feminist writer. Probably the author of the anonymously published Essay in Defense of the Female Sex (1696), Drake belongs to what has been called “the first sizable wave of British secular feminist protest,” occurring from the mid-1680s until about 1713 (Ferguson, 1989).
