A diverse family of orange, yellow, green, brown, grey, or black birds, that have bills varying from long, thin, and decurved to stout and hooked. They are arboreal, feeding on nectar, fruit, and seeds, and nesting in trees and other vegetation. The two extant species of Loxioides (three species are extinct) are often placed in the genus Psittirostra. There are 8–11 genera, with 16 species, confined to Hawaii.
