dumb terminal

Quick Reference

A monitor-based input/output device that has no processing associated with it. This means that all functions, such as displaying a graphical interface, are carried out by the computer to which it is currently connected. Normally such terminals are associated with mainframe computers. Much of the power of client server computing arises from the fact that a large amount of processing can now be transferred to the personal computers and workstations which have replaced dumb terminals.
