Quick Reference

Legendary warrior at the historical Battle of Clontarf (1014) who chose death over dishonour. A fairy woman came to Dúnlang before the battle and offered him two years of life, and joy—‘life without death, without cold, without thirst, without hunger, without decay’—if he would put off combat for a day. He refused the offer and fell valiantly in battle. See also DUBHLAING.
