Ballet in one act with choreography by Balanchine, music by Stravinsky, and lighting by Ronald Bates. Premiered 22 Jun. 1972 by New York City Ballet at State Theater New York, with Mazzo and Martins. In this setting of Stravinsky's five-part duo for violin and piano the two dancers periodically engage with the musicians who play on stage. It has been revived by many companies, including the Royal Ballet (1995).
