Son of Ecgberht, recovered the kingdom in 685 from his uncle Hlothere with the help of the South Saxons, but he died on 31 August 687 after a reign of only eighteen months. Henry of Huntingdon, writing in the twelfth century, commented that Eadric reigned ‘sine amore et reverentia Centensium’—without the love or respect of the Kentish people.
