Acute tropical hemorrhagic fevers with a high case fatality rate, caused by related but antigenically distinct viruses in the filovirus group. Some members of this group of diseases may be zoonotic infections of rodents or monkeys, but the host species of others, including the usual central African form of Ebola disease, is not known.
