Succeeded his father Earconberht in 664, ruling until July 673. He is reported by a late source to have murdered his two cousins, Aethelred and Aethelberht. His wife's name is unknown and he was succeeded by his brother Hlothere, though his sons Eadric and Wihtred later became kings.
