The ballet school of the Paris Opera which dates back to 1713 and supplies nearly all of the company's dancers. Girls enter at the age of 8–12 and boys at 13. It is considered to be one of the finest schools in the world and teaches an academic curriculum alongside ballet training. Claude Bessy was director between 1981 and 2004 and was succeeded by Élisabeth Platel.
