Peripheral venous thrombosis that can be a consequence, especially for middle-aged and elderly passengers, of sitting more or less immobile in long-haul jet aircraft, particularly but not only in the cramped economy class seats. Inability to move about causes venous stasis, which encourages thrombosis. Occasional fatalities occur from this condition.
