A putative oncogene (ENC-1, p53-induced gene 10) highly overexpressed in group I vs group II parathyroid adenomas. The product is an actin-binding protein of the Kelch family that is an early and highly specific marker of neural induction in vertebrates. Expression of ENC1 has been shown to induce the formation of neuronal processes. Also expressed in adipose tissue, where it appears to play a regulatory role early in adipocyte differentiation.
