Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

A protein expressed in keratinocytes, hair follicles, sweat glands, and in other adult and fetal tissues, which is defective in X-linked anhidrotic ectodermal dysplasia. Isoform 1 (135 aa) is predicted to contain a single transmembrane domain. The larger isoform 2 (391 aa) may be the active protein. Probably a member of the TNF-related ligand family and involved in early epithelial-mesenchymal interactions. Binds to a specific receptor (EDAR) that can activate NFκB, JNK, and cell death pathways. See hypohidrosis.
