A headache commonly experienced at the completion of sporting activities, such as the marathon and triathlon, in which participants are exposed to extremes of heat, humidity, and inadequate hydration. The headache usually lasts for about 1 h and has symptoms similar to a migraine, such as affecting one side, visual aura, and vomiting. An effort headache can be prevented by proper conditioning and maintaining adequate hydration during the activity. See also headache.
