A belt claimed to increase the temperature round the waist and melt away fat. The same claim is made for inflatable belts. These claims are false: the belts may increase temperature and water loss, but they do not burn off fat. A temporary reduction in waist size may result from the water loss and compression of tissues, but this will be regained quickly. The belts often come with instructions for abdominal strengthening exercises. These exercises may account for reports of more permanent loss in waist size.
