In Greek mytholgy, the daughter of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra, sister of Orestes. She persuaded her brother Orestes to kill Clytemnestra and Aegisthus (their mother's lover) in revenge for the murder of Agamemnon. Her name is used in Electra complex, a dated term in psychoanalysis for the Oedipus complex as manifested in young girls.
Electra is also the name of one of the Pleiades, daughter of the Titan Atlas and mother by Zeus of Dardanus, ancestor of the kings of Troy.
