Electric Boogaloos

Quick Reference

(orig. Electronic Boogaloo Lockers)

Funk and street dance group founded in 1977 by Boogaloo Sam and Nate ‘Slide’ Johnson in Fresno, California. The group's characteristic style, known as locking, is a fluid variant of popping, in which small, sharp moves (including flexions of the limbs and rolls of the head, shoulder and hip) pass in quick succession through the body. Locking was widely popularized through the group's appearance on the television series Soul Train. Boogaloo Sam still performs with the group along with a later generation of performers including Poppin' Pete.
