A monotypic genus of spiny palms which form dense, extensive clumps in lowland swamp rain forest. They are similar to Salacca, but the inflorescences form a massive terminal head. The fruit pulp is sour. They occur in Malaya, Borneo, and Bangka and the Riau archipelago, Indonesia.
