Supposedly said by Sherlock Holmes to Dr Watson, although the remark in this form is not found in any of Conan Doyle's stories; the nearest thing to it is an exchange in The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes (1894). ‘‘.Excellent,’. I cried. ‘.Elementary,’. said he.’ The misquotation ‘Elementary, my dear Watson’ is first recorded in P. G. Wodehouse's Psmith, Journalist (1915).
