elongation factors

Quick Reference

Proteins that complex with ribosomes to promote elongation of polypeptide chains; they dissociate from the ribosome when translation is terminated. Elongation factor G (EF-G), also called translocase, associated with the movement of the peptidyl tRNA from the “A” site to the “P” site of the ribosome. Elongation factor T (EF-T) is responsible for alignment of the AA ∼ tRNA complex in the “A” site of the ribosome. See translation.
