An elongation factor (elongation factor ‘eleven–nineteen lysine-rich leukaemia’, 621 aa) that increases the rate at which RNA polymerase II transcribes DNA by suppressing transient pausing. The human ELL gene on chromosome 19 undergoes frequent translocations with the trithorax-like MLL gene on chromosome 11 in acute myeloid leukaemias. Functionally similar to elongin.
