The Empire Theatre was, along with the Alhambra Theatre, London's main platform for ballet at the end of the nineteenth century. Between 1887 and 1914 it drew large crowds to performances by some of the era's finest dancers, including Cecchetti (one of its first premier danseurs), Genée (who was prima ballerina there, 1897–1907), and also Kyasht, Bedells, and Bolm. Katti Lanner was ballet mistress there from 1887 to 1897.

Subjects: Dance.
