Quick Reference

Is an alternative and increasingly common label for the academic field of industrial relations. Unlike the latter term, it does not have a narrow association with trade unions and traditional manufacturing industry and so signals the fact that employment relations in non-union and service-sector companies fall within the ambit of study. The continued use of the word ‘relations’, however, stresses the fact that the subject is not concerned solely with the practice of management but also embraces the interests and activities of employees, trade unions, and governments.

Subjects: Human Resource Management.
