An α-chemokine (epithelial derived neutrophil activating peptide-78, CXCL5, 114 aa) that is chemotactic for activated T cells, binds to CXCR2, and affects the growth, movement, or activation of cells involved in immune and inflammatory responses. TNFα enhances its production by dermal fibroblasts and vein endothelial cells and it is induced by inflammatory cytokines in human colonic enterocyte cell lines. Levels are raised in the colon of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The mouse homologue is LIX.
