Son of Ulrich von Ensingen, he worked under his father at Strasbourg and Ulm before moving to Berne, Switzerland, where he designed the Cathedral (begun 1421). He also became master-mason for the Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady), Esslingen (1429) and the Minster, Ulm (from 1446). Like his father, he ranks high among German medieval master-masons.
