‘Without Limit’, the Kabbalistic name for God as He is in Himself, utterly beyond all human comprehension. In the Kabbalah, God as He is in Himself produces, by a process of emanation, the ten Sefirot, the powers or potencies in the Godhead through which En Sof becomes manifest in creation. Since En Sof is beyond all comprension, It (the impersonal pronoun is usually preferred by implication, though Hebrew does not have any impersonal pronouns) cannot be spoken of at all. True to this idea, the Zohar rarely speaks of En Sof and some early Kabbalists boldly remark that En Sof is only referred to in the Bible itself by hint. The God of whom the Bible speaks is God in manifestation.
