An appetite-regulating peptide that is the N-terminal portion (VPDPR) of procolipase, generated when it is cleaved to colipase. Enterostatin alters 5-HT release in the brain, and 5-HT1B receptor antagonists block the anorectic response to enterostatin. Experimentally it has been shown to suppress fat intake after peripheral and central administration. Release of enterostatin varies in a circadian fashion in some animals.
