Hero of the longest narrative (c.30,000 words) recorded from Irish oral tradition in the 20th century. Storyteller Éamon a Búrc of Kilkieran, Co. Galway, recited the tale of a binding spell, in which the hero Eochair is sent on an arduous quest, to Liam Costello in 1938; it was edited and published forty-four years later.
