Nero's freedman and secretary, received military honours for helping him unmask the Pisonian conspiracy (see calpurnius piso, gaius) and accompanied him in his final flight. He was again secretary for petitions of Domitian, by whom he was killed (ad 95), apparently because he had helped Nero to commit suicide. Epictetus was his slave.
