Quick Reference

A disorder of cerebral function accompanied by recurrent seizures and sometimes loss of consciousness. The severity varies (grand mal, Jacksonian epilepsy, MERRF syndrome, myoclonic epilepsy of Unverricht and Lundborg, petit mal, etc.) but can usually be controlled with anticonvulsant drugs. See doublecortin; epalons. A condition described as epileptiform resembles epilepsy. Epileptogenic agents induce an epileptic attack.
