Quick Reference

Was king while Kent was in comparative eclipse. He is described as son of Octa or Oeric, and was therefore a descendant of Hengist. Eormenric's date of death is given by Bede as 560, but a reference by Gregory of Tours to ‘a certain king in Kent’ suggests that it may have been considerably later. His son, Aethelberht, reigned for many years; his daughter, Ricula, is said to have been the mother of Saeberht, king of the East Saxons.
