Croatian pianist, prof. at Vienna Cons. 1867–1901. Taught Mahler and recognized his genius even as a boy. His son Richard (b Vienna, 1869; d NY, 1919) was his pupil. He lived in London 1909–14, then in NY. Was accomp. to Destinn, Sembrich, Gerhardt, and chamber‐mus. partner of Kreisler and Elman, also playing with Rosé and Bohemian Qt.
