The air in the equatorial trough, which although originating as tropical air in the subtropical anticyclones tends to be somewhat cooler than in the immediate areas of subsidence. There are no distinct differences in the physical properties of equatorial and maritime tropical air. Any slight changes in stability may cause major changes in convective activity and the resulting weather.
