Quick Reference

An oncogene originally identified in avian erythroblastosis virus. In fact there are two oncogenes, erbA and erbB, and the human cellular homologues of erbB are structural genes for receptor tyrosine kinases (see epidermal growth factor (EGF receptor); c-ErbB2 is also known as HER2/neu) and the erbA products are members of the steroid/thyroid hormone receptor family. Mutations in the T3-binding domain of c-ErbAβ cause generalized resistance to thyroid hormones (GRTH) syndrome.
