Quick Reference

A solar prominence that has previously been quiescent but suddenly starts to ascend at a few hundred kilometres per second, eventually disappearing from view. Eruptive prominences are often visible at the Sun's limb in association with coronal mass ejections. On the Sun's disk, the equivalent phenomenon is a disappearing filament.
