A frequently fatal cancer associated with exposure to certain dietary and other environmental factors, including carcinogens in tobacco (pipe and cigar smokers are especially prone to this cancer), and to regional variations in dietary components. For example, it occurs in Iran and in parts of China in association with high dietary intake of nitrosamines.
