(class Osteichthyes, subclass Crossopterygii)
A genus of lobe-finned fish, known from the Devonian of Europe and N. America, that exhibited a number of advanced characters (e.g. lungs and strong muscular fins), suggesting that it was closely linked with the evolution of the Amphibia. It was related to the lungfish and coelacanths.
