(1736–1806) Revolutionary War general, born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Ewing was in the Pennsylvania militia with George Washington's army in late 1776. Because of weather conditions, he decided against crossing the Delaware below Trenton as called for in Washington's battle plan. Ewing saw no important military campaigning afterwards.
