1 n. A physical object or document produced in a court, shown to a witness who is giving evidence, or used in conjunction with an affidavit or a witness statement. Physical objects produced for the inspection of the court (such as a murder weapon in a criminal trial) are referred to as real evidence. The Practice Direction to Part 32 of the Civil Procedure Rules sets out provisions dealing with exhibits in civil proceedings.
