A joint ESA–NASA programme to send two missions to Mars. The first, planned for launch in 2016, will consist of the Trace Gas Orbiter to detect atmospheric trace gases such as methane, plus a simple lander known as the Entry, Descent, and Landing Demonstrator. The second mission, planned for launch in 2018, would consist of two rovers, one European and the other American, delivered to the same site. ExoMars is the first part of the Aurora programme.
